Installing ArcGIS Desktop on a Mac
To run ArcGIS 10.x on an Apple Macintosh computer, the Mac must be set up to run Windows. There are severals ways to do this, but they require one of two installation options.
To use ArcGIS Pro on a Mac, a contemporary Mac (MacBook Pro, iMac, or Mac Pro) with a quad-core Intel processor, 256 GB storage, and 8 GB RAM or more is required. Mac s with non-Intel processors are not compatible. For hardware requirements for the host machine, see the ArcGIS Pro system requirements.

Option One: Create a dual-boot setup on your Mac, which allows you to boot into either Mac OS or Windows OS. The typical method for this is to use the free software BootCamp.
The following Mac models will support the 64-bit version of Windows 10 Home or Pro edition installed with Boot Camp:
- MacBook Pro (2012 and later)
- MacBook Air (2012 and later)
- MacBook (2015 and later)
- iMac Pro (2017)
- iMac (2012 and later)*
- Mac mini (2012 and later)
- Mac mini Server (Late 2012)
- Mac Pro (Late 2013)
You will need enough free disk space to create a Boot Camp disk partition with a minimum size of 64GB. 128GB is recommended for the best experience.
Using BootCamp: http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Option Two: Create a virtual machine on your Mac, which allows you to run an installation of Windows OS in parallel with your existing Mac OS, and to switch from one to the other without booting into either one separately. Typical choices for the virtualization option are the licensed software Parallels or VMware. This option requires more resources (RAM & CPU) to run both OSes at the same time, as well as plenty of hard drive space (see the virtual machine options below for details).

The ESRI GeoNet Forum has more information on these options (search for 'mac'). When configuring Windows with any of these options, it is important the configuration meets the minimum system requirements for installing ArcGIS.
Keep in mind that ESRI does NOT support ArcGIS for Mac, and that you can only use ArcGIS within one of the Windows OS installation options described above.

Features:
- Build projects
- ArcGIS Pro organizes the resources that you use to do your work into projects. A project contains maps, layouts, layers, tables, tasks, tools, and connections to servers, databases, folders, and styles. Projects can also incorporate content from your organization’s portal or ArcGIS Online.
- Map and visualize your data
- You can map your data in 2D and 3D with ArcGIS Pro.
- Perform analysis and geoprocessing
- Geoprocessing provides a suite of tools for performing spatial analysis and managing GIS data in an automated way. Use ArcGIS Pro to analyze your data, manage GIS data, and build tools to automate your work or solve complex problems.
- Manage and edit your data
- With ArcGIS Pro, you can create and edit many different kinds of features, including cities, buildings, roads, forests, rivers, mountains, and any other spatial phenomena, and integrate data from many sources into your project. You can visualize the layers you are editing in both 2D and 3D so you can see them from all perspectives.
- Use tasks to streamline your work
- Through tasks, a GIS administrator can develop a series of steps that users can follow to ensure work is executed based on standards in your organization. A task is a set of preconfigured steps that guide you and others through a workflow or business process.
- Share your work
- Sharing your work is an important part of ArcGIS Pro. You can share everything from whole projects to maps, layers, and other components.

3D is the common visual and analytical experience for tomorrow’s GIS that is fully supported by ArcGIS Pro. With 3D streaming for global and local scenes; spatial analysis for advanced 3D workflows; lidar classification, feature extraction, and editing; and support for the Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) data model and BIM (Building Information Modeling), ArcGIS Pro is the authoring tool for urban design.
About GIS
GIS stands for geographical information system. GIS is a business information management system that helps us capture, analyze and present spatial information on a map. GIS allows us to make better decisions using geography.
Unlike other data management platforms, GIS technology allows for spatial components of the data, like their locations or extents, to be a component of the analysis. GIS systems have five major components: people (aka GIS experts), the data they are working with, their methods of analysis, the hardware or physical devices they are using, and finally the software or computer programs used for analysis.

GIS analysis is mainly known for the inclusion of multiple data layers and the inclusion of spatial characteristics and data analysis.
ArcGIS Pro 2.8 updates (changelog)
- 2.8.3 Update | Bug fixes.
- 2.8.2 Update | Bug fixes.
- 2.8.1 Update | Bug fixes.
What’s new in version 2.8.0:
- Performance and productivity
- Better performance at opening and saving projects, opening maps with collapsed layers, loading and drawing 3D objects, label placement and label halo drawing, opening tables, and more.
- Copy to clipboard visible extent in a map scene or layout, and then paste into other supported software.
- Ctrl+click to copy layout elements.
- Copy Python code to clipboard.
- Duplicate a label class with a context menu command.
- Data engineering
- Data engineering helps you explore, visualize, clean, and prepare your data. The process of data engineering is a critical first step in many spatial analysis and mapping workflows. The new Data Engineering view and ribbon help you better understand your data and prepare it for GIS workflows.
- Use an existing tile cache to share web layers and services
- A new layer drawing option to use an existing cache is available when you share map image layers, web imagery layers, map services, and image services. This option applies the settings of the existing cache, such as the tiling scheme and levels of detail, to the web layer or service you are sharing. The existing cache must not be associated with any content currently in your portal or on your server.
- Command search
- Command search helps you find commands and tools by name or keyword. When you find the command you want, you can execute it directly from the search result.
- Export layouts as accessible PDF files
- You can now export layouts as accessible .pdf files. These files can include descriptive alt text for map frames, chart frames, and pictures that can be read by screen readers to enhance comprehension of your layout.
- Selection symbol for polygon features
- A new selection option allows you to use a fill color or hatch pattern for selected polygon features on your map. The default outline symbol can make it hard to interpret the selection set when unselected features are surrounded by selected ones or when you are zoomed in to large map scales. A solid fill or hatch pattern makes the selection set easy to see.
- BIM support for IFC files
- Native file support for IFC files. Support for this common interchange file format expands your ability to use BIM design data from many software vendors and third-party sources. Like the existing support for Revit files, IFC files are now read as building layers in ArcGIS Pro.
